Joseph Sams School Receives Grant Funding from Clothes Less Traveled

Marie Sams, JSS Executive Director (L)
and Karen Stephens, CLT Board
The Joseph Sams School (www.josephsamsschool.org ), a private, non-profit organization serving students with special needs in Fayetteville, received a $15,000 grant from The Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop (CLT) throughout 2011. The funds have been used to support the school’s general operations. With the continuing economic downturn, non-profit organizations everywhere struggle to secure operational funds, and JSS is no exception. Funding from CLT has assisted the School in maintaining its full array of programs and services for children with mild to severe disabilities who range in age from birth to 22 years. Throughout 2011, JSS served over 100 children and their families through its 10-month school year program, Class-room Readiness/Tutorial Clinic, ASPIRE Afterschool Program, and 3-week summer school.

Just before Christmas, CLT awarded the School an additional $5000. JSS Executive Director Marie Sams stated, “These additional funds could not have come at a better time for our school; we are truly blessed to have such a wonderful organization as CLT in this county that supports so many worthy non-profit organizations.” Founded in l997, CLT is a non-profit, non-denominational faith-based initiative that provides grant funding to help local charities further their mission and make a difference in the community.

ABOUT THE JOSEPH SAMS SCHOOL Now in its 28th year, The Joseph Sams School, Inc. is a fully accredited, private, non-profit organization in Fayetteville, Georgia currently serving children who have mild to severe cognitive, physical or diagnosed developmental disabilities. The JSS is the only school of its kind in the metropolitan Atlanta area offering comprehensive services from birth to age 22 to such a broad range of individuals with disabilities. Fayette Youth Protection Home Awarded Grant

L - R: Chuck Powers, CLT volunteer, Karen Stephens,
CLT Board and Becky Davenport, Fayette Youth Protection
Fayette Youth Protection Homes (FYPH) recently received a $5,000 grant award from The Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop as well as a bonus check for $3,000 in honor of Heather Dognazzi and Chuck Powers. Heather is a dedicated member of the Clothes Less Traveled Board of Directors, and Chuck is a volunteer recently recognized for his Above and Beyond Service to the Clothes Less Traveled. Both Heather and Chuck selected Fayette Youth Protection Homes as their preferred charity for 2011.

Fayette Youth Protection Homes will use the grant award to cover general operating expenses. FYPH is a non-profit organization which provides shelter and support to children and youth who have been the victims of abuse, neglect or other tragic circumstances. At the Friday-Johnson Home, a residential group home located in Brooks, GA, school-age children receive protection and healing through a structured and homelike environment, counseling, and most importantly, lots of hugs. FYPH also operates a private foster parenting program and a clothing resource center known as Gracie’s Closet which provides free clothing and supplies to children living in foster care on the south side of metro Atlanta.

Established in 1997, the Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop is a non-profit organization located in Peachtree City that resells gently used clothing and household items and then disburses the profits, after expenses, to needy organizations in the community.

FYPH Executive Director Becky Davenport states, “The Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop has been such a blessing to Fayette Youth Protection Homes, and we are so grateful to volunteers like Heather and Chuck who make such a positive difference in their community.”

For more information about the Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop, call 770-486-8517 or visit their website at www.clotheslesstraveled.org.
